RST X-3

Formulated for ALL bowlers regardless of their style or their skill level. The latest installment in the RST Series provides WAY more mid-lane motion than the RST X-2, while still providing PLENTY of giddy up down lane. This version of MicroTrax™ Hybrid features nano particles throughout to provide the traction you need in oil, while its two parts pearl provide you the reaction you have come to know and love about the RST Series. So, whether you are a recent PBA Hall of Famer, or this is your very first high-end ball, the RST X-3 will provide unparalleled reaction time and time again.

RST Core

Professional bowlers like to see continuous motion down lane with minimal deflection as the ball enters the pocket due to their rev rates usually being on the higher side. This logic was the basis of development by the R&D team as they looked to create a core that would maintain dynamics after drilling in order to maintain a higher level of core torque down lane. The larger mass at the base of the core does indeed create that. Especially since when drilled, the thumbhole will always end up in the void area not really affect the bottom mass of the core. Thus, making this core a “Tour Level” type core design better known as the Roto Star Tour Core (RST™ Core).

MicroTrax Coverstock

Our MicroTrax (Micro Nanoparticle Traction) Hybrid Coverstock creates a larger than average footprint in oil, while still providing above average responsiveness to friction down lane thanks to its overall chemical structure. This version of hybrid technology is far and away our most aggressive due to the nanoparticles helping to provide greater peaks and valleys in the overall surface profile.

RST-X3 review
I drilled up my RST-X3 with a 4.5 x 3.5 x 2 VLS layout. I have thrown it box (4K-Fast) and touched it with a 2000 pad also. I have thrown this on mostly PBA50 patterns in the longer range like the 46 ft and 44 ft patterns.

This is the real deal for me when it comes to send it right and watch it come back hard. I have an INFINITE PHYSIX that hooks quite a bit and the X3 is there step for step and maybe even harder on the back. Compared to my stronger cover solid balls like the SUPER NOVA, this is a great step down with big motion.

X-3 By RGR
Roto Grip RST X-3: RST core with MicroTrax Hybrid cover stock with 4K fast /exceptionally light polish. The layout is 60 x 1 ½ x 65.
Currently using it on a 46ft THS that was a BIG cliff on the back of the pattern and not really blended well front to back and side to side. Super dry outside of 12 and super heavy conditioner between 16 to 16 across the boards.
Comparing it to the RST X-2, the movement is early in each part of the ball motion due to hybrid cover versus pearl cover, which is understandable and expected, BUT the main difference is that the X-3 still has a good bit of angle into the pocket, where the X-2 tends to be super over/under reaction because the pattern is not blended well. The X-1 had too much early movement and would lose most of its momentum because it would try to “dig in” too much in the front of the pattern and the heads. I changed the surface to 2000ab to see what the difference was and there really was not much difference in the movement, the ball does look better with the increased lane shine at 2000ab over weeks of using it. I call this core ASYS-LITE, because it is on the “lighter side” of ASYS cores out there and gives me a smoother reaction that other ASYS cores.

Review:
The new Roto Grip RST X-3 is my favorite of the RST Series so far. The color is as different as the ball motion within the RST Line. Where the X1 was early and strong and the X-2 was clean and angular this one is very different. The X-3 is very strong in the mid lane but surprisingly angular in the back. This ball smashes through the pins with excellent carry. The only thig I need to remember is to put it away when it reacts too strong. This is hard because it is a fun ball to roll and watch move. I have only rolled it at box finish but I have polished them for my customers with very good success. This ball is stronger than my Hyped Solid but just a notch under my Gem in total hook. Even with my lower rev rate I have no problem moving left and carrying the corner pins due to the angular motion of this ball. This ball will be in my bag for tournaments and even wetter house shots. The color looks great rolling down the lane.

Summary:
The RST X-3 is strong and angular.
The Ball looks great at box finish or polished.
This is a must have for lower rev rates looking for bigger motion.

“Upgrading" from a Tropical Surge
I'm no pro or amateur, just love playing and average 175. I first purchased a Tropical Surge 13lb on mostly dry lanes locally. It was too light and hooky on dry lanes with my rev of the ball. I've been eye balling the Pitch Black but couldn't decide when. Three years later we went into a different alley about 30 minutes away. It was night and day to what I'm used to. Even the pro shop gave me pointers and suggested the RST 3 over the Pitch Black due to my style. He said it had more length than the Pitch Black. So I added this RST 3 in a 15lb. The proper weight I needed all along it seems. Fortunately I've been able to play on oily lanes so far. Best game out of there was a 196. But I'm anxious to see what it does on the aforementioned dry lanes. Until then I'll leave a four star. Very solid ball this far and I'm in need of curls now.

This ball is gorgeous, but it pounds the pocket even better than it looks!
