Bowling News USA - April 9, 2013 Andrew Frawley, Daunting in Dubai

Storm's Andrew Frawley of Australia ended a one-year title drought with victory in the DIBC Open Bowling Tournament 2013 Saturday, April 6 at the International Bowling Center in Dubai, UAE.

The USBC silver level coach (pictured left with the trophy), who won his last title in March 2012 in the 2012 ABF Tour Bahrain leg, defeated Samantha Hannan of England, 254-221 (including eight pins handicap), to win the title and the 25,000 Dirham first place check, worth approx. 6,800 U.S. Dollar.

The long-time Australian national team member averaged 233.33 for nine games to survive the qualifying cut to the top 24 players in 17th place. Tim Mack, United States, led the field of only 63 players - 61 men and two women - with an average of 261.78 for his three highest three-game series.

Frawley led Round Two thanks to a final 300 game and averaged over 240 to lead Round Three and to earn the No. 1 seed for the four-player stepladder finals.

The lone local bowler in the finale, Naif Oqab, seeded fourth, ousted third-seeded Filipino Hashim Guinomla in the opening match, 235-217, before he fell to Hannan in the semifinal, 231-204.

Hannan pocketed AED 12,000 for second place while Oqab and Guinomla received AED 8,000 and AED 5,000 for third and fourth, respectively.
