  • Jason Belmonte - Behind the Scenes Jason Belmonte - Behind the Scenes

I am a very relaxed and laid-back guy, I have to be, I am Australian. I have an amazing wife, Kimberly and 2 adorable children; daughter, Aria and son Hugo. I would do anything for all three of them and I know they would do the same for me. I love to play games of all types. I love to play all kinds of sports, as long as you have to use a ball in it. I am a big movie lover and my favorite movie is "Evil Dead 3- Army of Darkness." The worst movie I have ever seen is "Disaster Movie".

I will always take the time to shake a hand or sign anything for anyone. As for my journey through life, all I want is to one-day look back at my life and say I did everything I could have to be the best husband, father, friend, son and bowler.

Jason "Belmo" is one of Storm's two-handed sensations. In 2014 he won the Barbasol PBA Tournament of Champions by defeating Wes Malott 219-218 in the championship match. It was the eighth title of his career and second major. Jason also introduced Belmo-Vision through his Google Glass headset giving fans a first-ever point-of-view look during competition.

In December of 2013, Jason was named the 2012-13 PBA Player of the Year. He won 2 titles during the season starting with his first major at USBC Masters.  Later in the year, he won the Lucas Oil Bear Open.  He also became only the 3rd player ever to make the TV Finals in all four majors during one season. Jason won the Masters and finished second in the World Championship, Tournament of Champions and the US Open.

I play many sports when I am home to keep fit. I love to run around the squash or tennis court or a touch football field. I also enjoy getting in the ring and working out with some boxing gloves on. I love to walk the golf course and get in the occasional cricket session.

I get bored quickly at the gym so I need things to entertain me while I try to stay fit. Before competition, I make sure my legs, arms, neck and back are stretched and relaxed. I practice bowling as often as I can when I am at home. I try to hit the lanes at least 3-4 times a week, normally at night when the bowling center is closed. I am always trying to learn more about the bowling balls I am throwing.

It is important to understand exactly your equipment when competing at any level, but especially at the professional level.

1. You have bowled all over the world.  What is the best country you have ever bowled in excluding the US? I love to bowl in Sweden. They have great bowling centers and the competition is very tough.

2. Do you have any interesting superstitions or routines you go through before, during, or after bowling?  What is the most interesting superstition or routine you have seen from another bowler on tour? No, not really. I actually don’t know of too many superstitions from other players, but I believe Ryan Shafer has a bunch of them I’m sure.

3. What is the best advice you have for a teenage bowler looking to make a career out of bowling? Belief in yourself. Believe that you have an unlimited amount of potential, work hard, and if you want it bad enough, you can achieve anything.

4. When do you know when you need to change bowling balls? Usually I change bowling balls once I see the reaction on the lane is not exactly what I am looking for.

5. If you had one piece of advice for bowlers trying to elevate their game to a higher level, what would it be? Find a certified coach, or come visit my coaching company IAB where we help all skill levels improve. For more information log onto It’s so important to get instruction, no matter what level bowler you are.

6. How do you block out distractions around you during tournament play? I try not to look at scores or other people. I focus on my job and my plan of attack.

7. What is one valuable life lesson that you learned while on the PBA Tour that you believe would benefit the most people? Respect takes years to gain and seconds to lose. Choose your words carefully and remember that your actions always speak louder.

8. Are there any particular songs or bands that you listen to before you bowl to help you get pumped up? Nope, I just go with the flow.

9. If you got to choose a superhero ability, what would it be? To teleport across the world instantly.

10. What or who got you started in the sport of bowling? My family built a bowling center when I was only a few months old. I grew up in the center and spent most of my childhood there. I thank them every day for doing that.
