Brad Angelo bowled great all week. It was no surprise as his only other title came on the viper pattern. He started out using the IQ. Not the tour but the original. Then his step down balls were the Marvel Pearl and the Frantic. When it came time for the show we decided that he needed a Hyroad. The Tv show pair seemed to hook earlier in practice and it was the one ball he didn't have. It turned out to be the one. He bowled great and came out the winner!
Randy Pedersen:
Brad said it best, when he is able to do his thing, “ slow roll it, skid it through the front, and still have it return down lane” good things are going to happen. He was able to do just that against one of the hottest players on the planet. It’s also very interesting that his only 2 titles came on the same pattern. He made a great ball choice ( Hyroad) and made great shots, especially for a player who hasn’t won in quite some time. He trailed early, came back with a nice string, regained the lead, only to lose it once again. He found himself trailing heading into the 9th and 10th frame. He made a great shot in the 9th to give himself a chance. Then, out of nowhere, his opponent gives him the biggest opening of his career. When Mika got 6 on his second ball in the 10th Brad still had life. Angelo needed 2 strikes and at least 8 on his fill shot in the 10th frame to win his second career title. He stepped up and threw 2 of the sweetest shots imaginable, then 8 on the last shot of the tournament. Brad accomplished every athletes dream, he came through in clutch time.
There is no better feeling in sports. Brad was able to control his emotions and allow his body to perform the way he’s trained it to perform. He was in the “Zone” mentally. You could see the confidence in his eyes. He wasn’t thinking about anything. Just total focus. It’s always fun to watch great players perform at the highest level, that’s what Angelo did. And that’s why he won his second title.
