Aaron used a Defiant Soul to defeat Michael Haugen.  In the next match against Jake Peters, he elected to use the same ball but the lanes transitioned and Aaron couldn't keep up and lost to the eventual winner.

A fine performance and we will be definitely seeing more of Mr. Lorincz!

Randy Pedersen

Aaron Lorincz looked pretty solid in his tour debut.  Aaron, aka I Robot (Sonny) is said to have a great mental game, and it showed early on.  Now all he needs is experience.  This won't be the last we see of "Sonny"!

Chris Schlemer

In all honesty we didn’t have a clue what to expect going into the Badger event on the newly designed 52’ pattern. That long of a pattern and bowling logic was telling me the guys with higher rev rates and more tilt should have been the ones left standing. Wow did I guess wrong. Between the long pattern and the old wood surface it was quick to see in practice session that the higher rev rates were not going to dominate as I had figured. In fact it was completely opposite. The lower rev rates appeared to have the advantage as well as those with less axis rotation. The more up the back you could get, the better your ball saw the pattern and the lane.

Aaron Lorincz was a little different than the other Storm guys on the show in terms of equipment. He predominately used a Defiant Soul with some surface and for the night squad drilled another so he had a 1-2 punch with his Soul’s.

Del Ballard

Mike used a Marvel Pearl to battle Kurt Pilon and had a good look.  He moved on to the second match against Aaron Lorincz.  Haugen switched to an IQ Tour Pearl but couldn't keep up with Lorincz. Glad to have Michael a member of the Roto Grip staff. He has been bowling great.

Randy Pedersen

Many were surprised that Haugen made the show on such a long pattern but I wasn't.  On the 52' Badger, you have to keep the target in front of you and that is Haugen's bread and butter! He is a shotmaker and Haugen is not afraid of anyone.

Chris Schlemer

Staffer Michael Haugen Jr. used shined up pearls as his weapons. For Haugen solid covers slowed down in the wrong part of the lane while the pearl covers were the ticket to keep his more direct angles carrying to go on and make the show.

Del Ballard

Kurt Pilon used a combination of Defiant Soul and IQ Tour.  He didn't get out of the gates that well and Mike Haugen Jr. had a good look.  Pilon was unable to keep up. It was nice to see Kurt make a show again. He battles and is an established PBA veteran.

Randy Pedersen

Great to see Pilon back on the show!  After a heart attack that almost killed him, he is back to bowling great again.  Unfortunately he struggled on the show. It had been 12 years since his first and only tour win. I think Kurt is one of the tour diehards. He never gives up, has a great personality and bowled great to make the telecast.

Chris Schlemer

Now believe me when I say there was no definitive ball choices. Reason being, with all the different rev rates and balls speeds and axis rotations coupled with the super long pattern and high friction surface, it was anyone’s guess. From asymmetric cores to symmetrical cores, from pearl covers to solid covers and shiny to extremely dull, nothing stood out. Now you may say extremely dull? C’mon Schlem what is that? Well staffer Kurt Pilon used balls in qualifying and matchplay with 360-grit and 500 grit and went on to make the show.  Pilon used a ton of surface which he did on a variety of balls. He used pearls, solids and hybrids.

Like I said going in it was easy to think that strong balls and high rev rates would be the common theme. This top 5 went on to defy that all the way around. I have continually said over the years and taught that less is more. Here is yet another prime example. Lower speeds, less rev rate, less surface friction from the ball. The key to this event was shot making and taking the flat hits in stride and filling frames.
